Cogeneration and trigeneration result in two and three outputs, respectively, from the energy source. Polygeneration is a method of multi-generation with four or more outputs with the aim of minimising energy loss and maximising energy conversion. This book is focused on the description, development, and analysis of polygeneration systems to generate electricity, fresh water, hot air, cold air, and hot water from a source of energy. The main highlights of this book are desalination with no pressure or vacuum components; combined use of refrigerator and heat pump with a vapour compression refrigeration (VCR) cycle; binary fluid polygeneration; compact units; and flexible operation. Four polygeneration configurations are studied, viz., binary fluid polygeneration with single stage HDH, binary fluid polygeneration with double stage HDH, heat pump polygeneration with single stage HDH, and heat pump polygeneration with double stage polygeneration. The VCR is analysed with a water-cooled condenser. Another option for polygeneration development is to use a binary fluid system instead of the VCR. The heat pump element with the water cooled heat exchanger to support the HDH cycle is analysed to develop the best operational conditions. This book also triggers many other combinations to result in an innovative layout of polygeneration. The HDH plant with single stage operation and double stage operation is simulated with the objective of maximum yield and maximum energy conversion for binary fluid polygeneration and heat pump polygeneration. The polygeneration cycle energy performance ratio (EPR) is crossing more than 100% with all the configurations. The operating conditions of the proposed polygeneration systems are optimised to achieve higher EPR.
